I wait on winter branches high,

Where golden leaves forget the sky.

The ivy sleeps, the wind stands still,

I warm the dusk with dreams I feel.




Beneath bare trees, I’ve watched the years,

Each passing step, no voice, no tears.

Inside a shell, I hide the spring,

One breath too loud could break the wings.




I’m not a bird that dares the flame,

Nor butterflies with softer names.

I dance alone in twilight’s grace,

A squirrel lost in time and space.



No one knows my silent pain,

But I don’t chase the world in vain.

The sky’s too wide, the hearts too loud,

So I walk slow beneath the clouds.




At dawn I climb to find my meal,

At night I dream where stars might heal.

Not that I fear the thought of home—

But humans lie where flowers roam.




I’m not the falcon, proud and wild,

Nor gentle swan that men beguile.

I hold my truth in chestnut tight,

And fight my storms with quiet might.




I walk the pines where no one sees,

The moon my friend, the wind my ease.

And though I’m small, my heart won’t break—

I face the cold for freedom’s sake.
